The Department of Animal Science's mission is to provide leadership in Quebec training of highly skilled professionals in the field of animal science, to partner on an international basis for the development and transmission of new knowledge in animal science and maintain a close relationship with the various stakeholders of the agricultural industry to meet the needs of livestock.

Animal production are developing rapidly in recent years due to the advancement of knowledge in several fields such as biotechnology, nutrition, physiology, genetics, management and breeding animal behavior. The breeding of farm animals is now a complex and specialized information technology and modern production techniques are commonly used on the farm. These advances require the input of several experts with scientific training more and more advanced.

Parallel to these changes, our society is increasingly concerned about respecting the environment and the welfare of animals and also questioned the effects of diet on health. In addition, the increased trade in the world adds additional pressure on efficiency and production methods.
