How the advice of McKinsey lead to forest destruction

..

The majority of the remaining rainforests in the world are located in developing countries. It is therefore logical that the richest nations to help fund their protection, they are further responsible for a large share of emissions of greenhouse gases worldwide, and they are also the first buyers products of destruction of tropical forests.

In Cancun a formal agreement to create and maintain a forest fund was concluded. To be able to benefit from this fund forest protection, forest countries must submit a plan detailing how the money allocated will be used.
To set up their "file", countries have turned mostly to a single consultancy: McKinsey. Unfortunately, the advice provided by the firm in the fight against deforestation has proved disastrous.

McKinsey on the scene

When donor governments have begun to raise a fund for forest protection a few years ago, McKinsey has positioned itself very quickly as a consultant of choice on this issue.

McKinsey is widely recognized worldwide as the firm the most "influential and prestigious consulting industry." In 2007, for the fifth consecutive year, McKinsey was ranked the first position of the Vault rankings of the fifty largest firms worldwide, and customers include 93 of the top 100 global companies ... references that have more than enough to reassure forest countries !

In late 2009, McKinsey is responsible for producing an analysis of the potential REDDS in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Finally, the strategic plan developed by the Congolese Government resumes in full the recommendations of the cabinet, made in less than 5 weeks. And they are in total contradiction with the stated objective of protecting forests and their inhabitants, providing in particular:
- The expansion of the forest industry of 10 million hectares of rain forest;
- Subsidies for the forest industry to limit its contribution to the degradation of forests (750 million euros for ... maintaining the current situation)!
- Over one billion euros per year to 2030 for agribusiness (palm oil, etc..) So that it locates its operations outside the dense forests;
